The drum jam was a new way to start the show. It certainly got people's attention that something big was coming.
On Suicide Blonde JD's vocals were slightly weaker than usual. He finally seemed to settle in during Disappear when we got the first big beatifuk grin. You could sense the tension with Tim, Andrew, and Kirk. Especially Kirk. Jon, JD and Garry seemed to be having a blast. Lots of great bass face from Garry, with some super duper bass stances scattered through out the show.
They started New Sensation with one of the back-up vocalists (Wendisue was there too). It was a really trippy LSD kind of version very slowed down, which was weird because this song has always been such a high energy song. Then they restarted the song with JD on vocals.
The big highlight of the night for me was the re-designed Beautiful Girl, that has a Lou Reed 'Walk on the Wildside' kind of vibe. JD's vocals and passion on this song came right through the TV screen. I can only imagine what it was to hear live. JD's pleading "Stay with me..." made me cry.
By Need You Tonight, JD was oozing sensuality all over the stage. It was the first time that I saw some nice interaction with INXS. He added some nice poetry into What You Need. By Pretty Vegas Andrew was beaming. And so was JD.
By My Side was a suprise for me. I remember them all gathered on the drum riser during the Switched On Tour for this one. This time around it's a grown up JD, and a band that he used to be part of.
Kick, Devil Inside and Don't Change all came shooting out one after the other. And then they were off the stage. We got one song n the encore, a lovely swaying hips Taste It. There was a nice moment down front where the female singer was playing a guitar, and Andrew was next to her, and JD was caressing Andrew's strings. Andrew seemed to nod his approval at this.
JD's parting words to the crowd were "We're INXS and we'll catch you on the rebound." And then they were gone.
The gig reminded me of how much I miss INXS with JD. I guess we'll have to wait to hear what direction they are going, but JD rocked that gig, and I'm glad I got to see them one last time, if only for some closure.
