Now, I'm having trouble with my Windows Media Player. It no longer recognizing being connected to the internet after the last update. I've tried everything, and still can't stream. Has anyone had this experience?

I haven't heard of that happening before Ember. Have you googled the error at all? There might be some troubleshooting sites that have it listed. Otherwise, what I'd probably do is uninstall it and download it again and hope that works!

Thanks Giaan.  Tried this twice now.  Can't get any video clips from radio stations etc to play.  I can get some audio clips.  I was trying to watch an INXS clip on a radio page when I noticed it.  Basically, the media player is not recognizing that I am hooked up to the internet, so it's also a problem where licenses for the music I have downloaded.  Sucks.  I've gone through every question on the microsoft site, and the newsgroup, and can't find a way to resolve the problem.  My ISP has never heard of this.  I tried to roll back to an older version of the media player, but still no luck.   Now, I can't play anything I purchased before the rollback.  Sigh.  This is why I hate downloads.  It could be that I'm still on XP, which I have to be for work.

I don't know a thing about Microsoft stuff but every now and again my laptop decides to boycott my wireless connection and refuses to acknowledge that it even exists.  I usually find that it has pulled a Hal and independently decided to change my settings.  Could it be something like that?  Does the player have it's own settings?  As I say I don't know how that stuff works so I may be totally out in the forest past left field.

PT, you have to make sure the proxy server settings are set correctly, which I have. 

I can live with it, I just can't play songs that I purchased through Puretracks or the old Bonfire, (which includes my beloved Running Up That Hill cover by Placebo - no point in paying for it again, the licenses won't save cuz the program doesn't recognize the internet connection).  And I can't play any web clips that need Window's Media Player to open and play the clip.  Sucks but, there doesn't appear to be anything I can do.   I'm conceding defeat since I don't have the energy to battle any further. 

  

It's a great cover PT.  Still sends shivers up my arms after all these years.

Giann, I've come across several radio stations that have done interviews that post the interview in Windows Media Player format, but stream it, rather than having their own player on the site.  I can't stream anything that isn't in a stand alone player because my system doesn't recognize the internet.  Microsoft seriously sucks.  If I didn't have to use so many of the programs for work, I'd jump ship in a heartbeat.

The one thing I did try was to see if it was evil Internet Explorer too.  It's not.  Does the same thing in Firefox.
