It was suggested that I post here for Kirk/Dad's fans to read this.

For any of you who ever wonder how much these men care about their fans and what wonderful human beings they are, let me tell you this one from the first time I met the band in '02...

Ok...the origins of Kirk as Dad-here goes...

I had my hand on my hip, but really I was massaging my
lower back cause it always hurts. I have chronic pain
there. (I'm going to break this up like it's a
dialogue or it will get confusing)

Anyhow, Kirk looks at me and says-well my...hello
there and puts his hand on his hip. Everything ok?

Me-Yes, my back just hurts.

K-(He took his hand down and put it out to shake
mine)Oh I'm sorry. You just looked miffed.

Me-No just fatigued.

K-I'm sorry, Hi, I'm Kirk.

Me-Yes, I know, hi I'm Holly Ann.

K-So are you from Sacramento?

Me-No, Portland.

K-(Stunned look)Oregon??

Me-(Stunned look on my face cause he knew)Yeh!.

K-Wow, thank you!

Me-You're welcome Kirk.

K-So what time did your flight get in?

Me-No, I drove.

K-Pardon? You drove down from Portland??

Me-Yessss.

K-Wow, thank you!

Me-You're welcome Kirk.

K-Well, where are your friends?

Me-Nope this was a solo road trip.

K-Hang on a minute (look of concern on his face) let
me get this straight. You drove down here from
Portland to see one of our gigs in a WHEELCHAIR???

Me-(chuckling)No, actually I drove in my car, the
chair was in the back seat.

K-Haha-smartie. So, you drive...that's great.

Me-Yeh, hand controls..I can drive anywhere anyone
else can. It's pretty cool to have that freedom.

Kirk-I bet. So how many gigs are you going to?

Me-10.

K-Wow, thank you!!!!

Me-You're welcome Kirk.

K-Hang on a minute, let me get this straight. You're
driving in a car, to TEN of our gigs, by yourself and
you're in a wheelchair??

Me-Yes.

K-(really worried look, rubbing the back of his neck
and chin intermittently)-You know, I'm not sure I'm
comfortable with that.

Me-(crossing my arms like uh huh sorry BUT nothing I
can/will do about that) I'm sorry.

Kirk-Oh no, I'm sorry, it's me. You see I'm a dad.

Me-Yeh, April.

K-OH you know April??

Me-No, I know of April.

K-Oh right right. At any rate, I'd have a heart attack
if my daughter ever did anything like that!

Me-Right, and your daughter is HOW old?

K-oh right, absolutely. You're an adult. It's none of
my business. Sorry. You're obviously more than
capable-I mean you're here right? Right. So you must
know what you're doing and hey these are 21 and up
shows so you have to be an adult.

Me-Uh huh, and I vaguely remember 21.

K-What's that supposed to mean, vaguely?

Me-Kirk, I'm 36 going on 37 years old.

K-NO WAY!!!!.

Me-ok...

K-No,no. I mean it's not that. I mean you're obviously
intelligent and mature and articulate. You're very
capable obviously...it's just you look...36?. I mean
damnit girl, you look good!

Me-(blushing)Well thank you.

K-No, really I never would've guessed from your face.

Me-thanks.

K-So do you have tickets and passes.

Me-Yes...well No.

K-Well, which is it Holly?

Me-I have tickets, but no passes.

K-Well don't worry about that.

Me-I was never really worried about it Kirk.

K-No, I mean go anywhere you want. Do what you want.
Just make sure you get to the meet n greets and after
parties. I want to see you.

Me-Kirk, that's really not necessary.

K-Yes, it is.

Me-No, it's not.

K-Yes it is, I want to make sure you're ok.

Me-Kirk, I'm fine really, this isn't necessary(because
I knew what a huge deal it was for him to be offering
this and I did not expect it).

K-I know you're fine. You're an adult. It's me. It's
my hang up. I know it's really none of my business and
you are more than capable. I just can't help myself. I
realize it's not your problem Holly and you can tell
me to bugger off (or something like that). But could
you please just humour me?(holding my hand and looking
at me with puppy eyes).

Me-Yeh, Dad. I think I can manage that.

K-Oh thank you daughter(pulls me into him by the
shoulders and kisses my forehead)

Me-Do we need to let someone know or put me on a list
or something.

K-Nah, I got you covered. If anyone gives you a hard
time you have them come talk to me and I'll straighten
them out.

**I so lived to regret it not being official and
having myself on a list


And that is how Kirk became 'Dad'. He actually remembered it in LC this January. I was so HAPPY! I said Hi Dad, how you doin'? Confused look brain making clicking noises...click click click...arms outstretched yelling "DAUGHTER!" Big hug.
