Hello,
In about 11 hours I will hopefully be a few miles into a 26.2 mile London Marathon. yep the day has arrived. Aarrgghh!!
My running number is 17005. I am on the blue start, pen 9 at Blackheath.
It kicks off at 09.45am for the fun runners.
In the excitement of securing my own place in tomorrows London marathon I have found myself raising money for 6 charities. And you can blame that film Run Fat Boy Run for my predicament. I have always wanted to run it and saw that film in October 2007 which reminded me to find out when the closing date was. Hey ho, 2 days later I was rushing around like a blue arse fly to get the application and cheque to London Marathon store in Covent Garden before the deadline.
I am not going to break any world records. I have had illness and stressful family situation in January which has seriously hampered my training. I will crawl across the finish line on my hands and knees if I have to.
The six charities I am walk-run-walking for are - and if you would like to sponsor me you only have to donate to one of them:
Childhood First: www.bmycharity.com/V2/jea...dhoodfirst
They offer residential care to children who have been badly affected by abuse and neglect.
David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation: www.justgiving.com/jean4wildlife
dedicated to the long-term conservation of critically endangered mammals in the wild and the benefit of the local people who share their environment.DSWF is a small wildlife charity with a big impact. It supports a range of innovative and far reaching projects to protect endangered mammals, such as tigers, elephants and rhinos, throughout Africa and Asia
Dr Hadwen Trust: www.drhadwentrust.org/get-active/events
Conduct medical research without experimenting on animals.
Eaves Poppy Project: www.justgiving.com/jean4e...ppyproject
Help women and children who have been rescued or escaped from the sex slave trade. It doesn't just affect women in poorer countries, but females in the West especially those in care or homeless or women travellers are also at risk from this sick trade.
Merlin: www.justgiving.com/jean4merlin
Helps provide health and medical care in poorer countries.
Wateraid: www.justgiving.com/jean4wateraid
1 billion people don't have access to clean drinking water which leads to death and sickness. Nearly 3 billion people either have no toilets, or do not have access to hygienic sanitation facilities. With the threat of climate change who knows whether we in the West may one day need NGO's like Wateraid to help us. Wateraid is helping poorer communities get clean water and clean sanitation.
If you would like to donate to one of the above charities, the hardest thing you have to decide is which charity to donate to. The hardest thing I have to do tomorrow is complete 26.2 miles and it could be raining.
No donation is too little or too large.
Wish me luck! And thanks for reading...
